Squash: IT-Open
IT Open of Squash took place on the 1st and the 2nd of February 2010. About 20 participants from all of IT took part in it. Most of the players got hold of the squash racket only after coming to this college. Not many schools and junior colleges have squash courts. The two finalists came out to first yearites which came out as a big and pleasant surprise!!! Both Aditya Vijay Singh(1st yr Mining) and Sashwat Anand(1st yr SMST) triumphed over 3rd and 2nd year seniors in their respective semifinals. It was a delightful sight to see the first yearites to win over the more experienced seniors. The referees, our captain and vice captain applauded for every point scored by the juniors.
There was a very satisfying smile on our captain's face on seeing the two first year players fight into the finals. The future of squash in IT is in safe hands.
The final itself went to the wire and the winner was decided only in the last match of the set. It was really hard to tell who among Aditya and Sashwat is a better player. In the end it was Aditya who inched by and stole the cup from Sashwat.
The BHU sports complex features wooden courts which are at par with international standards. All the courts have been reconstructed in the light of the coming Spardha 10. IT would be putting its best foot forward with its six membered squash team; a balanced blend of experience and new blood.
