Our Past Star : Volleyball

Haule haule se hawa lagti hai, haule haule se dawa lagti hai, haule haule se dua lagti hai, haaan…
haule haule chanda………. ##.......Hello…!!!

The hello you heard is from none other than Vinod Fauzdar, an Electronics Engineer today was a superb spiker in Volleyball and a record holder of our University in High Jumping.

Excerpts of an exclusive tete a tete…

On his present work and place.. I am presently working in Piramal Glass Ltd. near Surat.

About his preferred sports… I was mainly involved in Volleyball and Athletics. I played as a spiker in volleyball and was a high jumper.

His major achievements in I.T. Our team won Gold medal in SPARDHA and couple of Silver medals in IIT Kanpur sports fest. Also I was selected for the university volleyball team. I am the BHU record holder in high jump event.

Changes witnessed during his stint… When I took admission, the 1st and 2nd year participation used to be overwhelming. However gradually things went on decline. The enthusiasm towards sports kept on decreasing due to Internet and Orkut etc.

Whether he feels satisfied on his accomplishments… Ya ya, I feel absolutely satisfied on my contributions to sports in IT.

Is he still involved with volleyball…Ya , I have joined a local club and play regularly.

Any messages for the budding players…Sure. See, Sports are not something done just for fun. It should be felt, felt from the heart. It should be considered a part of ones life as if our existence depends on it. Play from your heart. And my best wishes to SPARDHA‘10.

IT Open : Lawn Tennis

Walking towards the path to glory laid by Sania Mirza and Somdev Debburman were many students participating in the IT OPEN.It was held on 11 Jan 2010.It was a perfect morning for any kind of sports event.

The court was bustling with the full vigor of the innumerable first years that turned up both to watch as well as play in the tournament. Four of the first years, Chirayu, Shankar, Bharat, and Shitesh qualified in the knock-out stages to proceed forward and play the seniors with the likes of Pushpinder Singh (Captain), Paaras Afrol and Saurabh Sharma.

The winner of the tournament was Pushpinder Singh(Captain) beating Bharat Kumar(1st year) 6-1 in the finals. The other semifinalist were Paras Afrol and Saurabh Sharma.

All the seniors applauded the level of play displayed by their juniors and admitted to have been given a very tough fight. The future of tennis is looking bright for IT with upcoming fresh talent under the tutelage of the seniors and the expert guidance of our very own Gymkhana.

Luck : Ingredient or Garnish

A toss is nothing but a flip of coin with the probability turning out to be equal for both the faces. Kick off, decision to bat or bowl, serve in racket games are all decided `by chance’ rather than by chance. The reason might be to provide equal footing to both the players. Just to make the game more interesting we could have it that the player or team at a lower ranking be given the slight advantage. But then if this is done we are branding the superior. The luck however marks them as equal.

How often have we seen an LBW decision wrongly given, off side going unnoticed at an initial stage & then bringing the match to the wire. This might be an error of jugdement on the umpire’s part but luck for the playing sides, good or bad. Of course, it sometimes changes the course of the match altogether. How can we forget the fateful India - Australia test match when Austarlia seemed to have 13 onfield players!!!! But then again each coin has two sides.

When both the sides play equally well then who wins?? May be the side which is more superstitious. A pinch of chaos and a teaspoon of uncertainty is what luck contributes in the recipe of a good game.
