The first match was between YMCA and MERI ,Kolkata which was dominated by MERI,Kolkata with the score line 8-0. But in midst of the game one of the players of the YMCA team got injured as he was hit by the hockey of another player by mistake and was immediately taken to SSL hospital. The YMCA team didn't played after that sad incident and MERI Kolkata was declared the winner. In the second match IT-BHU got a bye too as YMCA didn't played the match in the evening.

Match Reviews:
UGI had a great style but lacked substance and their extra show off of style made them lose the match. AOT were also average during the match.ABHISHEK MALWI of Malwa  played exceptionally well.

In girls clash, PRACHI from IT team played a great game.MONICA was a bit rough with opponent but was the best. The opponenets of IT BHU were never in the game but NO.15 an NO. 4 were quite famous among the crowd of K.N,MODI.

K.N.MODI said that it was not there original basketball team and they were happy just to participate(GREAT ATTITUDE). When MONICA(captain) was asked for her views about opponenet she said "you yourself saw the match so now no need to comment on them.(WHAT ATTITUDE!!!!!)

The IT Junta didn’t disappoint as they came out in huge numbers to support the Girls’ Basket Ball Team.

The students of IT BHU has a great passion for this sport. So the matches witnessed a great crowd. The matches were organized in the KINGS PAVILLION GROUND and ATHLETICS GROUND. The day begun with the match between RKGIT and  M.E.R.I. in which RKGIT won the toss and elected to bat. The college made a score of 140 runs with a loss of 4 wickets. However, the chasing team failed to reach the score and lost the match by a minute difference  of 8 runs
.
Above match was followed by a match between SSCET and BIT. But the team from BIT gave very fatal results in this match. They were unable to chase the score of 195 runs(highest score of he day) created by SSCET as a result of which they lost the match with a huge difference of  70 runs. In the 3rd match there were the teams from IERT and GALGOTIA. This match was full of suspense till the end as both the teams played equally well. However, IERT emerged out to be the winning team with 7 wickets.

Next came the match between IGI and YMCA in which IGI created a score of 89 runs. This small score was easily achieved by the counter team and the match ended with a mighty four by Sachin(not SACHIN TENDULKAR!!!!!!!)
.
Then came the most awaiting match between IT BHU and LDC. And in this match ITians smashed the opposing team. The toss was won by IT BHU and it elected to bowl. LDC aggregated a huge score of 50 runs for IT BHU(lowest score of the day!!!!!!!).This target was very easily chased by ITians in 4 overs only with a loss of only 2 wickets.DHANANJAY SINGH was declared as the man of the match.

Match no. 6 was between BSACET and UGI in which BSACET won the match with 6 wickets. The match between KNMIET and KNGDMEC slipped from the hands of KNGDMEC and it dropped into the basket of KNMIET. They won the match by 6 wickets.

The last match of the day ended with a great charm. It was scheduled between AMU and BSAITM and AMU won the toss and elected to bat. They created a good score of 132 runs. Danish made 70 runs in 50 balls only. However,BSAITM also responded heavily and they had a good start up. But, as the match succeeded it seemed as if it was going in the favour of AMU.The wickets of BSAITM fall down to 8 .Suddenly the situation turned around and the batsman played well. Finally, BSAITM was able to chase the target and they won the match by 2 wickets.

With this ended the series of cricket matches of the day, leaving behind a more enthusiasm for the winning teams to continue their chariot of victory....................We wish luck to all teams....

Day 2: Chess

The first day of the Chess championship saw some great clashes between mindknights from various institutes across the nation. None of the players gave away their matches and fought till the very end.

The first match was between BSAEI and LDC ALLAHABAD. BSAEI won all 4 of their matches and has hence made a strong start in the league. In an another clash of brains MERI KOLKATA defeated Dr. K. N. In the final match of the day RKGIT beat JDCT INDORE easily winning all the four matches. The captain of BSAEI said 'It is a very great experience for me to come here and perform well. There are a lot things which I have learnt from my mistakes and I am eagerly waiting for the upcoming matches'.

A number of enthusiastic first yearites were also present at the King's Pavilion who are not in the IT team but this has not decreased their passion for Chess and improving their game. The IT team will be playing it's first game tomorrow and the players are pretty confident of living up to the expectations and win this battle of brains...

Both the morning matches ended in a draw, however, the evening came up with results. IT won the match but the game was not up to the expectations of IT-JUNTA. The star team of the day was BSA who defeated Ganpati convincingly.

Day 2: Hand Ball

A total of eight teams have turned up to fight for Handball supremacy. Hand of God created controversies for Maradona, but that is what all the players from these teams need right now. It is a knockout tournament that these teams have to survive. With the end of the day’s play KNGDMEC is already out of the competition along with MERI, Kolkata.

The match between IT-BHU and MERI was an enthralling encounter. While the captain played his role to perfection, the defense ably supported the attack by consistently supplying them with passes. The forwards were on a goal-scoring spree to take the match firmly in the grip of the home team.

The first set went to K.N.MODI 25-19 but MERI fought hard and won the second set 25-13. In the deciding set both the teams fought real hard and made all attempts to knock down the concentration of the opponents. But eventually MODI escaped a narrow victory. MERI players were not happy with the judgement of the last point which was the deciding factor of the game. The match was so close that all the spectators were in pin-drop silence and the only sound audible was the thumping of hearts...

But this was only the first day and there are more exciting clashes to come in the next four days......!!!!!!

Our Past Star : Volleyball

Haule haule se hawa lagti hai, haule haule se dawa lagti hai, haule haule se dua lagti hai, haaan…
haule haule chanda………. ##.......Hello…!!!

The hello you heard is from none other than Vinod Fauzdar, an Electronics Engineer today was a superb spiker in Volleyball and a record holder of our University in High Jumping.

Excerpts of an exclusive tete a tete…

On his present work and place.. I am presently working in Piramal Glass Ltd. near Surat.

About his preferred sports… I was mainly involved in Volleyball and Athletics. I played as a spiker in volleyball and was a high jumper.

His major achievements in I.T. Our team won Gold medal in SPARDHA and couple of Silver medals in IIT Kanpur sports fest. Also I was selected for the university volleyball team. I am the BHU record holder in high jump event.

Changes witnessed during his stint… When I took admission, the 1st and 2nd year participation used to be overwhelming. However gradually things went on decline. The enthusiasm towards sports kept on decreasing due to Internet and Orkut etc.

Whether he feels satisfied on his accomplishments… Ya ya, I feel absolutely satisfied on my contributions to sports in IT.

Is he still involved with volleyball…Ya , I have joined a local club and play regularly.

Any messages for the budding players…Sure. See, Sports are not something done just for fun. It should be felt, felt from the heart. It should be considered a part of ones life as if our existence depends on it. Play from your heart. And my best wishes to SPARDHA‘10.

IT Open : Lawn Tennis

Walking towards the path to glory laid by Sania Mirza and Somdev Debburman were many students participating in the IT OPEN.It was held on 11 Jan 2010.It was a perfect morning for any kind of sports event.

The court was bustling with the full vigor of the innumerable first years that turned up both to watch as well as play in the tournament. Four of the first years, Chirayu, Shankar, Bharat, and Shitesh qualified in the knock-out stages to proceed forward and play the seniors with the likes of Pushpinder Singh (Captain), Paaras Afrol and Saurabh Sharma.

The winner of the tournament was Pushpinder Singh(Captain) beating Bharat Kumar(1st year) 6-1 in the finals. The other semifinalist were Paras Afrol and Saurabh Sharma.

All the seniors applauded the level of play displayed by their juniors and admitted to have been given a very tough fight. The future of tennis is looking bright for IT with upcoming fresh talent under the tutelage of the seniors and the expert guidance of our very own Gymkhana.

Luck : Ingredient or Garnish

A toss is nothing but a flip of coin with the probability turning out to be equal for both the faces. Kick off, decision to bat or bowl, serve in racket games are all decided `by chance’ rather than by chance. The reason might be to provide equal footing to both the players. Just to make the game more interesting we could have it that the player or team at a lower ranking be given the slight advantage. But then if this is done we are branding the superior. The luck however marks them as equal.

How often have we seen an LBW decision wrongly given, off side going unnoticed at an initial stage & then bringing the match to the wire. This might be an error of jugdement on the umpire’s part but luck for the playing sides, good or bad. Of course, it sometimes changes the course of the match altogether. How can we forget the fateful India - Australia test match when Austarlia seemed to have 13 onfield players!!!! But then again each coin has two sides.

When both the sides play equally well then who wins?? May be the side which is more superstitious. A pinch of chaos and a teaspoon of uncertainty is what luck contributes in the recipe of a good game.

Clutch : CS @ Spardha 10

Never before has a multiplayer game blended all the elements of true competition and sweat-soaked-shirt anxiety as Counter Strike(CS) has done. You basically play a game of cat and mouse, with the mouse being a terrorist group and the cat a squad of counter-terrorists. As a terrorist, you're goal is to plant a bomb at a specific location or hold a group of hostages. As a counter-terrorist, it's your duty to defuse said bomb or rescue the ill-fated hostages. Taking out all players on the opposing side will also assure your victory. CS is an action lover's dream, with games lasting only four or five minutes (if that in some cases) because, one shot to the head can mean instant death. CS is the perfect mix between fast-action and realistic damage. Working as a team is a must and, while you're in the game, taking the lone wolf approach will often get you killed...and fast. With the downloadable maps, skins, and guns, along with the headsets you can wear to talk directly to your friends, keeps your desire to keep playing this game for hours on end going.

This time SPARDHA too is having the CS fever and the CS tourney will be breath-taking..

So all the teams Stick together or else you will be clutched @ CLUTCH 10
